Located in the heart of downtown Saluda, McCreery Park is a favorite gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Just steps from Main Street’s shops and restaurants, the park offers a welcoming place for families to play, picnic, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. Throughout the warmer months, it also becomes a lively community gathering spot, hosting Saluda’s popular Top of the Grade Concert Series at the Ella Grace Mintz Stage. The park is lovingly supported by the Friends of McCreery Park non-profit organization.

Scout Hut Rentals

Planning a gathering in downtown Saluda? The McCreery Park Pavilion “Scout Hut” is a covered outdoor space available to reserve for group gatherings, picnics, community events, and other special occasions. Conveniently located within McCreery Park and just steps from Main Street, the pavilion offers a relaxed setting with easy access to the park, playground, and year-round restrooms.

Saluda Dog Park

Give your four-legged travel companion a chance to stretch their legs at the Saluda Dog Park, a fenced, off-leash space located just a short distance from downtown. Recently expanded to offer significantly more room to roam, the park provides a relaxed, wooded setting where dogs can run, play, and socialize while their owners enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Location: 199 Chestnut Street, Saluda, NC
Hours: Sunrise to sunset, daily
Admission: Free
Best For: Off-leash play, exercise & socializing
Highlights: Fenced off-leash space, shaded areas, seating, running water & waste bags
Parking: Limited parking available near the park

Dog Park Rules: Dogs should have current vaccinations, licenses, and identification tags. Owners must remain within view of their dogs and are responsible for cleaning up after them. Dogs should remain leashed until safely inside the park’s double-gated entrance area and should be leashed again before exiting.

Directions: From downtown Saluda, take Greenville Street and turn right onto Chestnut Street. Continue approximately ¼ mile; the Saluda Dog Park will be on the left.

Good to Know: The Saluda Dog Park was recently expanded, increasing the available free-roaming space by nearly 300% and giving visiting pups even more room to explore and play.

Discover nature, history, and a quiet place to explore at Henry’s Nature Center, a 20-acre outdoor education and recreation space just outside downtown Saluda. Created to help visitors, especially children, feel comfortable and connected in the woods, the property features walking trails, native plants, educational points of interest, and remnants of Saluda’s farming and railroad history. Follow the trails through the wooded landscape, discover the stone steps of an old homestead, and stroll historic Moody Lane while imagining life along the Saluda Grade more than a century ago.

A Special Legacy: Henry’s Nature Center was funded through a generous donation from Rob and Roberta Cart in memory of their son, Henry Robinson Cart (1989–2006). Their vision was to create an environmental education space where the community could explore, learn, and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

The 20.67-acre property was made possible through contributions from the descendants of R.H. Moody, Bradley Foundation, Polk County Community Foundation, and Saluda Community Land Trust, and Conserving Carolina, whose support helped preserve this special piece of Saluda for the community and future generations.

Discover an important piece of Saluda’s history at the Madame Phoebia Cheek Sullivan Memorial Park, a 40-acre historic family property dedicated to preserving the legacy of Madame Phoebia Cheek Sullivan. Sullivan was a renowned Black healer, seer, and herbalist whose influence reached far beyond the mountains of Western North Carolina. Today, the property is being preserved as a place where visitors can connect with nature while learning about Saluda’s rich African American heritage.

Looking to the Future

Plans for the park include the continued restoration and preservation of historic structures, nature trails for reflection and education, and a memorial honoring Madame Sullivan. Future trail connections are also planned to link the property with Reclamation Preserve and the surrounding trail network, creating new opportunities to explore both Saluda's natural landscape and its often under-told history.

Good to Know: The park is an evolving preservation project. Visitors should be mindful that some planned trails, historic features, and amenities may still be under development.
